The worst films of 2015

Every year comes with a handful of Oscar hopefuls but some fall so short, you wonder how they got the green light in the first place.

#5 Aloha - With dialogue so mind numblingly boring, you'd be surprised that the almost entirely A-list cast couldn't get this movie to float even a little. With big names like Bradly Cooper, Emma Stone, Rachel McAdams and Bill Murray, this military rom-com looked like it was going to be a hit but after it's push back release from December 2014 to May 29th, 2015, the movie already had some trouble brewing. The controversial white washing of Stone's character Allison Ng, did not help either. In the end, Aloha was so terrible and boring that I nearly forgot I had actually watched the film, the only scene I can recall is a painfully awkward 4 and 1/2 minutes dialogue exchange between Cooper and McAdams that is so poorly written its hard to imagine anyone would let it go to the big screen. Thankfully everyone involved in this project has moved on to other work and no one seems to be hindered by this early summer flop.

#4 Get Hard - There is a problem here and it's two very funny comedians trying too hard to be funny. Instead of what could have been the comedy hit of 2015, Get Hard is full of cheap laughs and offensive jokes that seem below each of these comedians levels. The movie centers around the premise of Kevin Harts character preparing Ferrel's for a stint in prison and never really takes off from there. Fortunately, this movie turned a major profit this year which isn't terribly surprising but if you have a knack for good humor, this title is almost impossible to sit through.

Doctor Strange is beginning to sound incredible

Marvel's ready to give the universe a dose of strange and this week we learned a lot about the upcoming film starring the latest Marvel roster addition, Doctor Strange. The image above, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, shows Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch in full costume and he looks spectacular, cape and the Eye of Amagotto on his chest. CEO Kevin Feige has assured fans that Marvel plans to keep the same spell binding, magical lore known in the comics for this character like his spells, many of which "have tongue-twisty fun names," and even his cloak of levitation. Hannibal actor and upcoming Rogue One star Mads Mikkelsen will play opposite Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange as the main villain, who has still yet to be named. Feige also went on to reveal a bit of information about True Detective Season 2's star, Rachel McAdams role in the film as a bit of an "anchor," to the Doctors' humanity and serve as a companion early on. The already impressive cast will be rounded out by Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo. You can check out more photos here and get ready for this fantastic journey next year when Doctor Strange opens in theaters November

Also pictured alongside our masked hero is Jon Bernthal as The Punisher who teased off his arsenal back in September. The image are courtesy of Entertainment Weekly where you can read a bit more about what to expect and just how deep they'll delve for the famous comic book dynamic between these two dark heroes. Daredevil season 2 is currently rumored to debut around April 2016. Until then, we'll just have to keep an eye out for more of what's in store for Murdock and company.

Pokemon is ready to give gamer's a blast from the past with 4 Pokemon themed 2DS handhelds that will launch in Japan next year. To celebrate the digital release of the original Pokemon titles, Red, Blue and Yellow on the 3DS shop on February 27th, fans will be able to get their hands on some spectacular models, reminiscent of the Gameboy Advances clear casing. The games will also come with a download code for the legendary Mew, which we haven't seen a distribution for since 2007. While we've yet to hear of a western release for these 2DS exclusives, hopefully they'll be making their way stateside in 2016.

Bad news for Playstation 4 owners as the last installment in the massively popular Uncharted series, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, has suffered yet another delay. Sadly, it appears a little bit more time is needed to fine tune some of the games features before it's new release. The title was originally slated to be released this holiday season before it was moved back to March 18th and is now set to hit store shelves April 26th, 2016. Hopefully the title will be worth the wait but going off of it's predecessors we probably won't have to worry. You can read the official statement regarding the delay here, on Playstaton's official blog page.

The Star Wars box office numbers are in

The early numbers are in and it looks like Star Wars is taking the crown for the biggest opening weekend of 2015. Beating out the previous record holder, Jurassic World, which opened to a massive $209 million on it's opening weekend, is projected to close out this weekend with an estimated $238 million dollars. That's also impressive when you consider the fact that the movie hasn't been released in the second biggest over seas box office, China, and won't be until early January. This also smashed the last opening weekend record for December with 2012's The Hobbit which brought in $84.6 million. It's not terribly surprising Star Wars: The Force Awakens did as well as it did but for Abrams and the rest of the spectacular cast, it's well deserved!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is an absolute must see film

As fate would have it, we ended up with who may arguably be the best sci-fi director of recent years with one of the biggest franchises in media history and what we got is a splendidly fun, incredible piece of cinematic treasure in the form of Star Wars: The Force Awakes. The movie starts off with a bang and director JJ Abram's use of traditional effects and less CG added to the nostalgia inducing Star Wars atmosphere. Character's new and old are both introduced and interwoven through a story line that, at times felt a bit "cat and mouse," but still worked beautifully. Newcomers Daisy Ridley and John Boyega star as central heroes with a fantastic on screen chemistry and Oscaar Isaac plays easily one of the best roles in pilot Poe Dameron and his lovable side kick BB-8. Even the Villain, Kylo Ren, played by Adam Driver, is younger, conflicted and dramatic, making for a great menacing presence that has a lot to be explored over the next two films. The action is fantastic, the story is hilarious and shocking and the diverse cast and what they brought to the table along side the likes of Harrison Ford and Carrie-Anne Fisher are unbelievable. There's even plenty of "easter egg" worth moments like familiar faces from the original trilogy of films and nods to some others. I laughed, I teared up and by the end, I didn't want to leave my seat and admit this movie had ended. It manage to avoid every negative pitfall featured in the three prequel films setting up one amazing trilogy and although JJ Abrams will be passing the torch on to Rian Johnson for episode 8, there's hopefully even more fun to come. It's a great movie for the family and is definition of cinematic magic. To me, this is the Star Wars film fans deserved and a must see film in theaters.

Nintendo has given us some big surprises in the form of DLC for their massively popular fighting franchise, Super Smash Bro's but, it looks like they saved some of the best for last. During today's last Super Smash Bros Nintendo Direct announcement, Players were treated to the news that the recently announced Cloud from Final Fantasy 7 would be available today! If that wasn't amazing enough, we also got to see a new character named Corrin from the upcoming Fire Emblem: Fates due out next year. As if that wasn't enough, gamer dream fighter Bayonetta is also making her debut in the Smash Bro's and will be available come next February alongside Corrin. It's sad to hear that this is the final presentation and while creating these characters must be an incredibly tough job, hopefully this isn't the end of the DLC for this title. You can check out more of the news here and take a look below for her amazing announcement trailer!
