So it looks like the rumors are true! It was confirmed this morning during Pokemon's Nintendo direct that the 7th generation of games will be called Pokemon Sun and Moon and are confirmed for a 2016 holiday release. The short 6 minute video also gave us a nice 20th anniversary trailer as well as showing off the Nintendo eshop downloadable titles, Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow, all of which will be available starting tomorrow. We only saw the smallest glimpse of Pokemon Sun and Moon concept art in the works but no trailer as of now. Hopefully we'll be seeing more closer to June's E3 press conference. Until then, get excited for an all new Pokemon adventure!
It looks like Netflix has completed it's defenders team with the latest news that Finn Jones has been cast to play Iron Fist in his own Netflix series due out, most likely, in 2017. The series will eventually lead to The Defenders, featuring Daredevil, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones alongside Iron Fist. Jones is most popularly known for his role in Game of Thrones on HBO as Loras Tyrell. Jones will play Daniel Rand, a martial arts wielder that first debuted in the 70's. Stay tuned for more news as it develops but are you excited for the Iron Fist series? After all, Netflix has done a fantastic job with all of it's other heroes thus far.
For the first time since November and the first time in 2016, Nitendo Direct is making it's return and this time it's all about Pokemon! Seeing as it's Pokemon's big 20th year, there's been a lot of news surrounding the franchise and it looks like we have even more surprises to come. I wouldn't be shocked if we heard and saw some more of the Wii U title, Pokken Tournament, due out March 18th as well as the handful of small Pokemon puzzle titles available on the eshop. We haven't seen any new information about the mobile title, Pokemon Go, either and it wouldn't be surprising if they used that opportunity to do so. I'm sure we'll get an official introduction to the latest Pokemon reveal, Magearna, and it's role alongside Volcanion in the new Pokemon film due out later this year. The big question is, are we getting a core Pokemon title in 2016? Following Pokemon release trends and seeing that the previous two, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, were remakes of previous titles, it's looking more and more likely that we'll be seeing the long rumored Pokemon Z, completing the X, Y and Z trilogy. The new current anime series in Japan support this due to its name, Pokemon XY & Z. While we don't know just exactly what we're getting, you can bet we'll all be excited for it! The Nintendo Direct is set to air 7:00am PT/10am EST this Friday.
Ahead of it's April 26th release, it looks like Sony has a surprise coming soon for gamers. As teased by this tweet, Sony is asking if gamers are "ready to seek your fortune." While there isn't much else added to it, we do have a time 9am eastern time stamp for the big reveal. Will we see a new trailer or something more? Who knows but make sure to stick around for the awesome news tomorrow morning for Uncharted 4: A Thiefs End!
VR is heading in the right direction especially with the latest news that IBM is working on a title centered around the massively popular anime series, Sword Art Online. A short teaser debuted showing off how the game is planning to immerse players into the RPG universe. Using a "cognitive system," players will use their bodies to make in game decision. An alpha test will be available from March 18th-20th in Tokyo and there's an official site where you're able to sign up for it now! Sword Art Online centers around the premise of characters finding themselves stuck inside a virtual reality game, fighting for their lives to return to the real world. Let's hope life doesn't imitate art. Take a look at the teaser below! The Witch (stylized as The VVitcher) is this years early buzz worthy horror film but does it hit the nail on the head of miss the mark completely? The Witch follows a puritan family, banished from a plantation, leaving them at the edge of a mysterious woods to fend for themselves and feed their family. The disappearance of the youngest member of the family sets of a wave of paranoia and accusations in this old English folk tale. Witch's slow burn horror approach coupled with it's fantastic lure is what really wins in the long run. The movie feels so thoroughly developed and researched that the story and acting feels authentic. It's an easy movie to get drawn into, a rarity of modern day horror films. Witch exploits it's sort of "give and take," walking movie goers through this deadly creature deep in the woods and the overly religious family whose lives are in peril. This movie is more about sin and confessions than it is about the witch, which really makes it all the more smart. Thomasin, the main character, becomes the families scapegoat between the inconsolable mother to her young twin siblings Mercy and Jonas, despite her protest her families accusations grow louder. There's noticeable symbolism in the film that never feels out of place like a disturbing scene featuring a red apple, the witches red cloak and a black rabbit and black billy goat. The accent in the film is a bit hard to follow and to untrained ears, you might sit there staring at the screen wondering just what was said. While Witch only has a handful of shocking moments, the movie's so well crafted that it's hard to not believe that this film deserves it's spot in the horror genre. This is incredibly amazing considering this is director and writer Robert Eggers first big screen project. Witch is eerie, dark, intense and certainly different from what we've seen as of late. This is a film you're going to want to grab some friends for and experience on the big screen!
The latest Xbox One exclusive title, Quantum Break, is just a few weeks shy of it's debut and it's already building quite the buzz. Creative Director Sam Lake announced on twitter that the title has already gone gold ahead of it's April 5th release. The game will also be released on PC and feature a "cross save," function, allowing players to stop and pick up on either of the two versions. This title will not, however, be launching on steam. The shooter mixes slow motion effects with some insanely clean graphic to make for one heck of a ride! Take a look at the trailer below and get excited to pick up this title in April when it hits store shelves. It's hard not to talk about the record breaking Deadpool film with it's massive Valentines day weekend success but there's a big question going forward, will we see more R-rated super hero films? Director of Guardians of the Galaxy, James Gunn, wasted no time addressing the controversial and profane merc movie with a profane Facebook post of his own (more so aimed at a deadline article), warning Hollywood to take "the right lesson," from Deadpool. He brought up a few really important points that the fear here is that films "like Deadpool," will be green lit which will essentially be high violence and high in foul language without the heart and actual hilarity behind Ryan Reynold long awaited film. This all comes just a day before the rumor surfaced that the third and supposed final Wolverine film could be rated R itself. While Wolverine could possibly work with an R rating and maybe even feature the inclusion of Deadpool, there's another problem Fox has on their hands. Deadpool became highly profitable because of it's extremely low budget, due in part to its rating. With a mere $58 million, Deadpool grossed a massive $284.5 million world wide as opposed to the last solo Wolverine film with a much larger $120 million dollar budget which grossed $414 million and X Men: Days of Future Past with it's whopping 200 million dollar budget that grossed nearly $750 million through it's box office run. It's a bit of a gamble and maybe because it's a fictional character, producers might be willing to take the gamble but will we see PG-13 budgets get poured into rated R films? Deadpool broke an impressive record being the biggest R rated opening in the U.S. box office history and the change could potentially send studios scrambling for what ever raunchy story they can throw on screen. While it's extremely unlikely that any core Marvel films will go the route of R rating, who know what Fox has up their sleeve? We've already heard the interest in an adult X-Force film which would see Reynolds reprise the role as well as a direct sequel to Deadpool. A new Spawn film from comic book artist Todd Macfarlane which will most certainly be rated R, has also been confirmed so we'll just have to wait and see if companies are going to jump the shark or if Deadpool was an exception to the rule.
The newest Fire Emblem game is just a few short days from it's international release are coming in and they look pretty promising. Gaming site IGN gave the versions a solid 9.5 and 9.4 out of 10, while Polygon rated the two as an overall 8.5, Destructoid gave Birthright an 8.5 while Conquest received a 9.5 and Game Informer has published their review as well. The game, which launched in Japan last June received straight 9's from gaming magazine Famitsu, earning a Platinum Award and selling out in just a day. The games praise has largely come from the various story lines and new combat mode that incorporates the luck of dice but has some initial doubt in the castle building segment as well as the multiplayer experience. Regardless, this highly anticipated title is sure to impress fans both new, who will want to consider the Birthright edition, and old for fans who will want the Conquest edition. Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest and Birthright hit stores this Friday, February 19th.
