After months of speculation, it looks like the main cast for the live action Pikachu film is set and they have booked one major comic book star. Ryan Reynolds, star of Deadpool, will lead the Detective Pikachu alongside the long time Pokemon fav. With him will star Kathryn Newton from Paranormal Activity 4 and Supernatural, and Justice Smith is set to appear in next years Jurassic Park film. Rob Letterman who directed 2015's Goosebumps film is set to direct the movie which, as of now, does not have a release window but we should be getting one now that we have a good handful of the cast announced. This weekend, the limited theatrical run for the new Pokemon anime film, Pokemon the movie: I choose you! is releasing world wide. Earlier this year, the film was met with some harsh criticism for swapping out fan favorites Misty and Brock for two brand new characters, changing the original canon of the story. While it was criticized by fans in Japan as well, it seems to have done fairly well at the Japanese box office so it will be interesting to see if older fans are going to flock to see the film or turn away from it. Either way, we will finally have the opportunity to meet Makoto and Souji for ourselves beginning this weekend!
Today is the last day to get your hands on one of the special hat Pikachu. As a promotion for the new Pokemon film, Nintendo has been releasing one of the special Pikachu's perweek from the end of September through the end of August and the Alolan cap Pikachu will be the last of the distribution. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon will mark a huge and bittersweet moment for the Pokemon core titles. The news broke today that Gamefreak will be shifting focus on the Nintendo Switch for the core Pokemon titles moving forward and that the Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon would be the last two titles to land on the Nintendo 3DS. While this is big news, it will be interesting to see how future Nintendo handhelds will last without the staple franchise. This will also mark the first time a core Pokemon title landed on a console which will definitely mean a large graphics boost along with an array of new functions. We probably won't see the first Switch Pokemon title for the next few years but until then, it looks like we will be enjoying our very last 3DS adventure.
While we patiently await the release of Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, the Pokemon company has given us a look at a brand new poster teasing some mysterious new characters. While the poster itself looks intense, showing off characters from the original titles like Hau and Lillie along side the final evolutions of the starting trio, there appears to be several figures obscured by dark mist towards the top. The trailers have already given us a glimpse at some new characters players will be interacting with. At the bottom, you can also see the November release date along side the Japanese price for the game and the exclusive Lycanroc that will be available as a pre-order bonus. One of the island guardian Pokemon is available in a special form for a limited time! The Pokemon Tapu Koko, is now available for download as a shiny for both Pokemon Sun and Moon. From today until August 14th, fan will receive the Pokemon as a mystery gift, with the moves Electro Ball, Agility, Discharge, and Nature's Madness. Pokemon has given us one of the strangest teaser videos in the series history and it has everyone scratching their heads. The new video ask a series of questions, showing various encounters with some of the mythical and extraterrestrial Pokemon throughout the many game titles. Polygon has a partial translation of several of the messages, which ends with the Pokemon Unknown spelling out, "Is Something Happening?" All will be revealed July 19th but until there, keep an eye on the official website and try to decode this mysterious message. Today marks the first Pokemon themed Nintendo direct and its come with some big and exciting news. First up is the announcement of Pokken Tournament DX, a Nintendo Switch port of the massively popular Pokemon fighting game. The game will gome with 5 new playable Pokemon, 3 v 3 battles, and online battles as well.Pokken Tournament DX is set for a September 22nd release. There was also a few second trailer of Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon shown. The titles will feature Pokemon who didn't previously appear in the original titles. They are both due out November 17th. Pokemon Gold and Silver versions will also release simultaneously as Pokken Tournament DX for the Nintendo virtual console. While the Nintendo direct was short, these are still some major Pokemon announcements. It's also important to note that Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon will follow Nintendo's plans to keep the core Pokemon franchise to their handheld systems. Are you ready for some more Pokemon in 2017? Before the release of the latest Pokemon anime series, the iconic gaming franchise is giving fans a look at the past with Pokemon generations, a series of shorts dedicated to some of the biggest moments in Pokemon history. The first two episodes, which feature some amazing fight scenes, were released on youtube today. One, serving as more of a trailer for the over all series showing Red with Pikachu fighting off hordes of Pokemon and encountering legendary types from all previous generations. The second bring back Team Rocket leader and Viridian gym leader Giovanni in an attempt to capture him!
