Platinum Games Xbox exclusive title, Scalebound, is no more. After rumors started circulating the net, Microsoft announced officially that the title has been cancelled indefeintly. In a message to various press (including Kotaku), Microsoft states that "After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for “Scalebound.” We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including “Halo Wars 2,” “Crackdown 3,” “State of Decay 2,” “Sea of Thieves” and other great experiences." A huge dissapointment given the amount of hype surrounding the title and amazing presentation shown at last years E3 press event. Whats worse is Microsoft has stripped their site of any mention of the title, thus removing videos from their site as well as streaming services like youtube. Surprsingly enough, the title is still active on the Platinum Games website, which could mean there is a small sliver of hope of this title living on with a different distributor (although, highly unlikely). For now, it looks like we're closing the door on this dragon adventure title. Hopefully Platinum Games can recover from this devestating cancellation.

We're just a few days shy of being a month from Blizzard's Blizzcon 2016 and we weren't left with much to look forward to. Aside from the drawn out, and poorley planned, Sombra reveal for Overwatch, the most dissapointing news had to deal with Blizzards stable dungeoun crawler, Diablo 3. Despite rumors surfacing that Blizzard might be ready to announce Diablo 4, we found out quickly that the apperance of a sequel isn't coming this year or probably anytime soon. Instead, as optional (and paid) DLC, gamers will be able to use the iconic Diablo 2 class hero, the Necromancer, which appears to be laregly the same as the original, just transposed into a new title. It was also dissapointing news that we won't be getting any DLC in the way of of a new story addition, but instead, an expansion that will allow gamers to play the original diablo maps in Diablo 3. While we can't be sure if Blizzard has more up their sleeves for us, it's certainly looking like they're beginning to nail this coffin shut on Diablo 3. In an attempt to get more gamers to play their "league of legends" clone, Heroes of the Storm, Overwatch offered a limited edition skin with the stipulation that gamers play 15 games with a friend, and the popular online card game, Hearthestone, is receiving another update. What we do know is that gamers have been scrambling for any sort of hint at an upcoming title and it was recently reported that Blizzard has begun seeking employees for an untitled first-person project. So, in the theme of 2016, Blizzcon was a let down but hopefully, we will see more coming from the much beloved gaming company.
Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping is the latest from the acclaimed musical trio and former SNL members, The Lonely Island, but does it start off summer with a laugh? Popstar centers around a breakout member of a former boy band named Conner, who's solo career skyrocketed but is facing some challenges just a week ahead of his second album release. If you aren't familiar with SNL's The Lonely Island or their "digital shorts," then it's almost hard to believe you haven't heard about at least one of their songs. From "Dick in the box," (original could not be found) to "I just had sex," to the classic, "I threw it on the ground," the group spent years on SNL creating some of the best original songs that were immensely popular and resulted in 3 album releases, the latest being the "Whack Album," back in 2013. Popstar serves as the collection of the best songs the group has made to date, packed with hilarious jokes and cameos and the movie compliments them perfectly. Conner, who serves as an almost Bieber/West parody, highlights societies Pop megastars in a hilarious way. His antics are over the top and while the movie gets a bit slower in the third leg, it opens so fantastically well and manges to stay funny consistently, that you'll laugh from everything from offensive pop songs to a ridiculous scene involving a limo window. One of the best scenes, by far, is an amazingly accurate TMZ parody (retitled CMZ) featuring various comedians that personally, had me in tears. Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping highlights why The Lonely Island own the landscape of parody music and Saturday Night Live will never be the same without them. Popstar nails the comedic biopic with flying colors and it's a must see for anyone looking for a good laugh.
The Oscar leads aren't terribly surprising this year with the Revanant leading with a whopping 12 nominations and Mad Max close behind with 10, some films managed to make an impact where it counted while others seemed to be left behind entirely. Despite the power of The Martian, director Ridley Scott somehow was over looked for a nomination. Carol was met with early rave reviews and while both Kate Mara and Cate Blanchett received nominations for best supporting and best actress, Carol was left out of the running for picture of the year as well as a director nomination for Todd Haynes. The delightfully sweet Peanuts movie missed out on animated feature and both Aaron Sorkin (who took home an award this past Sunday at the Golden Globes for best screen play for Steve Jobs) as well as controversial Hateful Eight director Quentin Tarantino both are missing from the best screen play categories. Creed saw another nomination for Sylvester Stallone while snubbing actor Michael B. Jordan and director Ryan Coogler. At the end of the list of shockers is Academy bait Joy by David O' Russel. While the film was met with mixed reviews, it was surprising to see the third film by O' Russel and one of this years best actress nominees, Jennifer Lawrence, only receive 1 nomination. Some surprises were the nomination for the summers blockbuster hit, Straight out of Compton, Star Wars: The Force Awakens received six nominations but was also left out of the running for movie of the year, Ex Machina is also nominated for best original screen play and Eddie Redmayne see's another nomination for The Danish Girl. Take a look at the entire list here and get ready for the madness to happen when the Academy Awards air live on February 28th, 2016.
