DC is re-imagining some Hanna-Barbera classics and boy are they getting a make over. Picture above is the new Scooby Doo gang and it's a drastic make over from previous iterations of our crime solving team. Alien on the ceiling aside, the now bearded and tattooed Shaggy sticks out like a sore thumb, Velma and Fred look like they're wielding some very futuristic weaponry, a "rocket the raccoon" sized Velma is packing a remote controlled drone and even Scooby has a strange collar complete with a new emblem and eye wear that seems to display bubbles of his thoughts? While Dan Didio, co-published of DC entertainment, had the intention of "not just bring back versions that existed 40, 50 years ago and really look at it the way of saying, if these characters were created and interpreted today, how would they exist?" It's hard to imagine that people will immediately adjust to such star changes in such recognizable characters. Scooby and his gang aren't the only classics receiving a make over as Wacky Race Land, Apocalypse, The Flintstones as well as Future Quest, which will see Johnny Quest along side other notable Hanna-Barbera characters, will all be debuting this May. What's your verdict? Are you fine with some classics changing or would you rather stick to the old? You can read Didio's interview with EW as well as see photos for the other comics here.
