For those of you who didn't qualify for the Club Platinum demo for Super Smash Bros last week, the demo available to anyone was release today, but how does this long time console title hold up on handheld. First off, the screen look a lot better than I expected, the characters don't feel too small and the black outlines actually do a tremendous job of helping you focus so you don't lose yourself in the action packed mayhem. It took a few rounds to get use to the motion pad being used nearly nonstop, which worried me because of how many of them tend to break, but after you get the hang of it you're good to fight to your hearts desire. Some of the new items like the bomb chu, drill arm, the ore club and plenty of others, really add a fresh element and add for some hilarious KO's. New roster additions, available to the demo, are Mega Man and the Villager while we can see greyed out boxes of 36 other characters, which is a hearty amount to start with. While we can't be sure if that's going to be everyone you did get right off the bat, we know that a handful of characters aren't shown on screen and must be unlocked. You only have 4 alternate colors out of the 8 that was confirmed for Mario, Link, Pikachu, Mega Man and The Villager. The Villager is a very well round characters, having both a mixture of strong close up and long range attacks, its easily one of the characters that you can pick up and get the hand of fairly quickly. Mega Man, on the other hand, requires a bit more focus as some of the attacks are done in segments and it's jump up attack isn't as easy to recover from the Villagers. Both have fantastic final smashes and look awesome when used. The demo let you play on one level with an alternate back drop if you press X when selecting it and only allows you 30 plays. (What I've heard is it's 30 times shutting your system on and off, not just 30 rounds) Unfortunately, while extremely fun, I don't plan n revisiting this appetizer to a great title that's already broken records in Japan. Super Smash Bros 3DS will be released in 2 weeks on October 3rd but be sure to play the demo to see if this version is for you.
