While Ant-Man wasn't Marvel's biggest box office debut, it still looks like the solo film of former their turned super hero, Scott Lang, will be getting the sequel treatment! Marvel announced today in an update for the 3rd phase of its film series, that Ant-Man 2 is happening and our hero will be along side Hope Van Dyke, A.K.A. Also, three untitled films are slated for 2020 on May 1st, July 10th and November 6th respectively. Get excited to see Marvel smallest hero back on the big screen for his own adventure,
A bit of a shocking statistic if I'm being honest but gaming developer Naughty Dog has stated that 80% of current PS4 owners haven't actually played any of the immensely successful Uncharted series. Another interesting find, released by Sony back in June, stated that nearly half of all PS4 owners never purchased a PS3, thus encouraging Sony to do more remasters of popular last generation titles. Naughty Dog's most recent remaster of The Last of Us, was wildly successful in sales and it looks like the company is hoping for another big hit prior to the lease of Uncharted 4, slated for a release one March 18th, 2016. While that's still a surprising number of players who haven't experienced the critically acclaimed franchise, I have no doubt in my mind that this is going to get a lot of gamer's who missed out before out to their local stores and picking up the remasters. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake collection, will hit stores October 9th, 2015.
Spoilers ahead, be warned if you haven't seen the episode yet or don't want to know. If you have, we need to discuss what happened in the 3rd episode of the second season of Gotham, "The Last Laugh." After crafting what certainly appeared to be The Joker's origin story, in one Jerome Valeska played by Cameron Monaghan, it looks like we were all lead astray when his character was killed off in shocking fashion by new villain, Theo Galavan, played by James Frain. The scene took place during a charity event magic show, in which Galavan was supposed to create the opportunity of portraying heroism while allowing Valeska to take him away but it seems like Galavan had been playing him all along, stabbing him in the neck in and explaining, "this isn't what we rehearsed." What makes is more interesting is Valeska's father, whom we saw killed earlier in the episode, left him with some choice words about the affect of his legacy and the madness it will inspire and the episode ends showing various scenes of people laughing manically, just like The Joker. While its a bit sad to see such a great actor and character go, Gotham certainly pulled off a great joke on the viewers. So the question is now, is Galavan the new Joker or will we get a new character all together?
Good news for anime fans! The popular series, Sword Art Online, will be getting the feature length film treatment. Revealed over the weekend at the Dengeki Bunko Autumn Festival and later confirmed on the official website alongside a new trailer! Get excited for a brand new, virtual adventure, that's sure to be great if it's anything like the series! The hottest song at the end of summer was non-other than candian rapper Drake's latest, Hotline Bling, which he released directly through his OVO sound radio on Apple Music, but it has a sample from another massively popular track that has an iconic gaming sample. This all orginate with a Viriginia rapper by the name of "Dram," and his debut track, "Cha Cha," that features a sample by long time video game composer, Koji Kondo, known for his work on multiple Legend of Zelda and Mario titles. Take a listen to all of the tracks below the jump.
Ridley Scott's "The Martian," is the latest space epic to debut over recent years but did this lonely space story do enough to separate itself from the rest of the pack? Let's take a look. The Martian, starring Matt Damon, is about a group of NASA astronauts who begin the movie in the middle of a mission on Mars but when a storm hits and botanist, Mark Watney (Damon), is struck by a piece of equipment and is presumed dead by his crew who then leave him behind and that's where the movie begins. While the story is largely about Watney's solo experience, a constant back and forth with events happening in multiple locations really takes away from the "secluded," atmosphere that could have been built upon. While most of the experiences themselves seemed awful, the incredibly capable scientist always had a solution, which made it more of a "time vs. effort," scenario for much of the film and outside of one sudden explosion, the movie failed to make you fear space, something that Gravity and Interstellar seemed to do so well. Instead, we watch a charismatic man use his brains and wits to, well, survive. Plain and simple, this movie is about one man who always has a plan, something goes wrong, but he's quick witted enough to think around it and carry on. (Summed up perfectly in a tweet by Dr. Brian Cox) We also didn't see very much of Mars, the planet where this movie took place. Watney spent a majority of his time inside a month long designed artificial habitat and otherwise, mainly driving a land rover. The movie, however, looked beautiful (with the exception of any scene showing the supporting cast floating in the space station). Regardless of it's lack of fear or sense of danger, the movie manages to avoid the serious tones of most Oscar Worthy space Blockbusters, using Watney's humor to keep to the lighter side of things. There's even a pretty funny Lord of The Rings joke included, although, I don't think Kristen Wiig's character would have actually not known it seeing as she worked for NASA. The supporting cast is diverse and fantastic from the aforementioned SNL alum, to Marvel's Sebastian Stan, Jessica Chastain, Kate Mara, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Sean Bean and plenty of others. The movie also did a fairly decent job of being accurate (even if space movies ignore this one thing). Regardless, The Martian, is off to a strong box office start but hopefully the impending hurricane hitting the east coast this weekend wont slow movie goers down.
One of the most iconic comic series, Watchmen, might be making its way to television and partnering with a serious cable channel. According to a report from Collider, Watchmen and Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder, has met with HBO about the possibilities of a TV series based around the graphic novel. His film, Watchmen, which debuted in 2009, is one of the most mixed reviewed graphic novel adaptations, even with it's controversial ending. The book itself is chocked full of amazing character growth and story lines that the movie, while attempting to, didn't quite scratch the surface of some of the best parts of the story. Watchmen, in my opinion, is long over due for a TV treatment and HBO, being a cable channel, might be able to give us the brutal and gritty version we deserve. Let's hope these reports are right and we get this series in the future!
