X Men: Days of Future Past opened this past Thursday but just how well did it to do compared to the other films in the series? Well, for a franchise that started in 2000, I would say it did a pretty good job! X Men:DOFP opened with 111 million over the 4 day Memorial Day weekend, this is one top of it's international gross of 171.1 million over seas bringing the full total to 261.8 million. While this is slightly less than the opening weekend for the highest film in the franchise, X Men: the Last Stand, which generated 12 million more, it's also director Bryan Singers highest grossing film to date. It's also good to see that the potentially career damaging allegations against him didn't seem to affect the success of the film. While we're already looking ahead at the sequel, X Men:Days of Future Past has already received critical acclaim as well as been an early box office success. Great news for X Men and comic book fans alike!

Happy Memorial Day! While I'll be working on some content for a little later and nursing my allergy headache, enjoy the holiday, spend time with your family and give thanks to the veterans that have served this country! Also, if you have the day off, check out one of the hundreds of TV marathons or play some video games!
Now that X Men: Days of Future Past is off to a great start, the burning question is, how will Quicksilver be in Joss Whedons sequel to the Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron? In DOFP, Evan Peters instantly became a scene stealer, not to mention having one of the coolest action scenes we've seen in any super hero movie thus far and probably for awhile to come. He character was quirky, funny, and down right awesome. This was great news for Singer who's character, upon debut, received mostly negative reactions for his hair and costume which many found off putting but oddly worked in the setting of the film. While there have been rumors about whether or not the Maximoff siblings, Quicksilver and Scarlett With, played by Aaron-Taylor Johnson (Kick ass and Godzilla) and Elizabeth Olson (Godzilla), will have their accents, there has been some news about the casting process. While Joss now has a chance to make any chances he may deem necessary, these Quicksilvers not only exist in different marvel properties but also at different ages. Scarlett With was not mentioned in Days of Future Past, you do, however, catch a small glimpse of her face as she is sitting as a little girl on Evan Peters lap while watching television in a scene towards the end of the movie. Also, it is hinted in DOFP that Magneto is Quicksilvers father, just a fun nod for the comic book fans. Avengers 2: Age of Ulton is scheduled for May 1st, 2015.
Also note: It's funny that Both Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Evan Peters starred along side each other in the super hero film Kiss Ass 1 and 2 only now to be two different variations of the same character and Aaron Taylor Johnson and Elizabeth Olson played husband and wife in the 2014 monster film Godzilla to now play siblings in the up and coming Avengers sequel. The next X men film plans for move the series in a much more epic direction. Simon Kinberg, writer for the Days of Future Past, went on to speak about the film taking a Rolan Emmerich style with it's directing. For those of you who don't know that name, he is the director of many notable blockbust films including the Day After Tomorrow, 2012, the 1998 Godzilla, White House Down and even 1996's Independence Day. While his movies may have been hit or miss, Kinberg is aiming for a much more high stakes and action packed film wit Age of Apocalypse. X Men: Age of Apocalypse will debut in theaters in May 2016.
There some big shake ups going on at Marvel this week. Their forthcoming Netflix direct 13 episode series about their famous comic book hero icon Daredevil, was originally planned to be directed by Drew Goddard, who has now stepped down to direct Sony's Amazing Spider Man 2, follow up, The Sinister Six. Taking his place will be writer and producer of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel and most recently, showtimes critically acclaimed, Spartacus. Marvels Daredevil is set to debut next year on Netflix.
Ike is returning to the Super Smash Bro's stage! Modeled after his costume in Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, the long time classic fighter was left unconfirmed, along with a handful others like Captain Falcon and Jigglypuff. As we get closer to E3, we already know that the 3DS version of Super Smash Bros should launch this summer for the 3DS and we can expect to hear that date pretty soon. The console version for the Wii U will release sometime this fall, more on that date as well when we have it!
A website has popped up with some official screen shots from what looks like cut scenes from the up coming Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Warriors title. The game, that will feature a Dynasty Warriors fighting style, is planned for release on August 14th, 2014. Aside from Link, the second announced playable character to be announced is Impa, carrying a large sword at her side. This, along with some photos of villains, comes with the promise of plenty of more surprising characters. Who knows how many we may end up with, the last Dynasty Warriors title had 60 playable characters on it own, although the Zelda series doesn't really have the kind of roster to support that many, there are quite a few characters that would delight gamers as they run through hoards of enemies and slash them away. I'm personally hoping Ganondorf, Shiek, or maybe even different variations of link like Zora Link or Goron link or possibly even Dark Link? Hopefully we'll be seeing and hear more about this hotly anticipated title come June 10th at this years E3. As promised, the Big Hero 6 trailer has dropped this week! This movie also marks the first full length animated feature film since the companies partnered together. The trailer shows the main character, Hiro applying armor to his robot who goes by name, Baymax. Also, a small update, the original release date for the film was schedule for November 7th, 2014 but the end of the trailer says coming Feburary 2015. Take a look and get excited!
Creative differences have led to the split of many production companies and directors before and it looks like Marvels up coming Ant Man film has suffered a big loss. Edgar Wright, (who was also attached to the film since 2006) director of "Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy", better known as Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The End of the World, was originally picked to direct this film about a small time crook who turns to good. The movie, starring Paul Rudd as Ant Man and Michael Dogulas as Hank Pym seemed like it was shaping into a interesting film and Edgar Wright has an enjoyable, fast paced directing style that's not only memorable but quite hilarious. Ant Man is scheduled to be release July 17th and hopefully Wrights departure will not have an affect on the release date.
Gareth Edwards is having a great year. The relatively unknown director who's small credits in directing earned him the spot to direct the 2014 Godzilla reboot, has been the first director announce to helm an untitled Star Wars spin-off film. Much like everything Star Wars and Disney related, the sources at this time are scarce, they're basically non-existent but it's great to hear after the reception that Godzilla has. Maybe he can bring that sort of epic feeling to one of the three rumored Star Wars films, one based around Han Solo, another a Fett or the possible Red Five film. More on this story as it develops.
