Jurassic world is on it's way to tear up the weekend box office but is it worth the ticket price? Two kids are sent off to visit their aunt at the larger than life Jurassic World theme park, only to realize they're getting more close and personal with the dinosaurs there than they expected. The first five minutes might be the most nostalgia inducing scenes I've seen in a film in a very long time and its hard not to feel like an excited child (three years old, in my case) seeing dinosaurs on the big screen for the first time back in 1993, but past that lies some problems. A lot of the movie had some really magical moments but the focus of this film is hunting down a genetically modified new dinosaur that manages to escape its pen and wreak havoc on the island as well as the other inhabitants. The story gets convoluted quickly, even thought it sorts itself out in the end, it certainly wasn't enough to make up for it's "shrugged shoulder," ending. The action is exciting and intense but a handful of inconsistencies left me scratching my head. For example, the younger of the two siblings who star in the film somehow managed to use matches that we seemingly soaked when the two dove into water while running from the Dinosaur. Another was an ode to the original Jeep Wrangler, which they managed to fix up and someone make run assuming it had fuel and these were just two within five minutes of each other. While the highly intelligent "bad dino," was a massive 50 feet long, he never actually felt that large, or menacing. i guess next to things that are near your size or taller or a giant whale like creature, you kind of fit in. A lot of the jokes fall pretty flat but the best delivery came from the lovable comedic actor, Jake Johnson, star of New Girl and Let's be cops. Jurassic World's biggest flaw is that its felt less like an adventure, like the originals, and more like a re-hashed version of a monster film. (People seem to echo that sentiment) Regardless though, this movie's still a pretty good time and Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard add some fun moments to the film and it looks like we'll be seeing more of them soon!
The legendary screen and film star, WW2 veteran and heavy metal rocker, Sir Christopher Lee, has passed away. It's with great sadness that the announcement came this morning after the actors hospitalization for respiratory problems and later, heart failure. The actors incredible film legacy spans as far back as 1948 until recent years where he was featured in the Star Wars prequels and this last year, where he returned to his role of Saruman, in the last Hobbit trilogy film. Let's also not forget that Christopher Lee also released multiple heavy metal albums as well. Generations of film goers have been in awe of his stunning presence on stage and screen and he will always have his place in cinematic history. Rest in peace Sir Christopher Lee. The lombax is back! Insomniac games revealed at last years E3 that they were working on a "reimagined," version of the original Ratchet and Clank title and it looks like we're getting more than just a next gen remake. The title that had it's original release back in 2002 has spun off a number of hit sequels and making it one of the most popular Sony platformers. Take a look at the awesome trailer for the game with the hilariously meta title, Ratchet and Clank:The game, Based on the Movie, Based on the Game and get ready for the movie next Spring, 2016 as well as the games release! Daredevil is one of Marvel's best projects to date and season 2 is already shaping up! Adding The Walking Dead actor, Jon Berenthal, to the mix as vigilante Frank Castle, better known as, The Punisher. This is a step in the right direction for the critically acclaimed series that's available on Netflix. While it's not due out until sometime next year, get excited now for even more action in Hells Kitchen.
Netflix has made another game changing move today by announcing a picture deal with one of Hollywood's most recognizable faces. It was announced that the upcoming film, War Machine, starring Academy Award winner Brad Pitt, was purchased by Netflix for a whopping 30 million dollars. This, of course, isn't the first move into big screen releases for the home streaming giant, as they also have a current four picture deal with Adam Sandler and will be releasing Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2 on their service the same day it will be released in theaters. It's going to be interesting to see just what other films Netflix might bring to their service. Who knows, in a few years, we might all be making less trips to the theater.
Nothing last forever and it looks like it's the official end of the road for the short lived NBC series, Constantine. After it's announced cancellation, a lot of rumors surfaced that NBC was looking to other networks to pick up the series, even one option the CW, which runs a number of comic book series currently. Sadly, executive producer of the series, Daniel Cerone, released a statement stating the cast and crew and no longer and that the show, despite it's diehard fandom, couldn't find a new home after all. Hopefully we'll see this character get the show and story he deserves.
