Exactly one week ago, Nintendo let loose it's first official app worldwide. The game, which had already registered over a million users in Japan, quickly jumped to 3 million world wide, becoming a huge hit. The set up is simple, create a Mii avatar and answer questions but the design is some what genius. Regardless of being a casual gamer or not, it's a fun way to interact with an app that's incredibly responsive and structured well. Adding friends initially was a bit of a hurdle. They're several options, a face to face option using a QR code, or adding friends that you already follow on social media sites Twitter and Facebook. To add a new stranger or friend, you'll have to follow or accept a friend request on those apps first beforehand. While that sounds a bit of an unnecessary step, it's somewhat nice knowing that you're interacting with people that you've already known, for the most part. As a matter of fact, Miitomo has taught me quite a few interesting facts that I wouldn't have known otherwise from people that I've been friends with for years. Aside from the interactions, there's a shop that updates daily with new clothing options for players to dress their characters up as like a hot dog or even a giant cat. I'm sure we'll see more famous Nintendo characters added as costumes as the weeks go by. There's even more incentive to get on the app daily as players are rewarded for answering and commenting on questions as well as receiving daily gifts from Nintendo. There's a fantastically fun system called the Miifoto that allows gamers to pictures of their mii and pose them however they like. (example, above) They're a series of minigames you can play as well to get your hands on certain items not sold in the shop that will be routinely phased out over time. Many gamers are wondering what Nintendo plans to do to make sure numbers don't drop but even if you're on Miitomo for 20 minutes a day, you'll probably still find yourself coming back for all the numerous offerings within this free app! Miitomo is available to download now. If you still aren't on board, take a look at their latest trailer below! DC is shuffling it's schedule in it's anticipated loss over Batman v Superman but one films suffering while the other just made a small step forward. DC's Batman v Superman is currently known for two things, a massive opening weekend but a huge box office drop following in it's second week apparently has studio heads frantic to recover in the long run. Remember, Batman v Superman needs at least 800 million to being to see a profit after it's lofty spending campaign and with films like Barbershop 3 and Hardcore Henry and other new releases around the corner, it's not like that the film will remain #1 in the next few weeks. This is apparently why DC has decided to shuffle their schedule, moving Wonder Woman's solo debut from the end of June to June 2nd 2017 and pushing Andy Serkis's directorial debut, The Jungle Book (not to be confused with Disney's The Jungle Book) back an entire year from October 2017 to October 2018. There has also been two new solo DC properties added to the mix which a lot of fans are speculating might be a solo Batman film that we've heard plenty of rumors of as well as a possible sequel to the villain-centric Suicide Squad, due out at the end of this summer. All in all, DC's going to have to up it's game plan because Batman v Superman will be a hit in a long run but it's not the home run they were hoping for.
Between the canonical Star Wars trilogy lands the brand new Star War's anthology and this morning we were surprised with a teaser at the first one, Star Wars: Rogue One. The story takes places prior to the event of a new hope as a group of pilots try to stop the death star. The trailer is ominous and teases a lot of action. Take a look at Felicity Jones, Forest Whitaker, Donnie Yen and more in the brand new teaser below! Blizzard's Overwatch may still be in beta but that doesn't mean it hasn't caused any controversy. Over the past week, gamer's have complained over the "needless sexualization," of the female character Tracer's poser. The original picture on the left, opened a (far too old) discussion and even led to the director Jeff Kaplan, revealing that the decision to remove the pose was "an easy on." He clarified by stating that, "it always one that wrestled with me creatively." Not only is this far from a new issue within gaming, this isn't the first time this pose has stirred controversy. (You can recall the first Avengers film poster that featured Black Widow strategically positioned to show off her butt which was later parodied hilariously.) Blizzard did the right thing by changing the pose to one that's not only less sexual, but an (alleged) homage to pin up artist Alberto Vargas. It's time more gaming companies take in the opinion of their fans, female gamers included. You can see the reference below and the new pose has been implemented as part of the latest patch for Overwatch. Overwatch will hit store shelves May 24th.
One of the best shooters finally has it's release date and it's going to be another brutal fall. Gears of War 4 will hit store shelves this October 11th but that's not the only good news. Early in the year, one sundance film was apparently so controversial that it sent critics out of the theaters. It was a real, "love it or hate," kind of film starring two very young and well known actors, Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe. Swiss Army Man is, perhaps, the most divisive film that circulated around Sundace and now we know why. The movie stars Paul Dano as a lone man stuck on an island when he finds a lifeless corpse that washes ashore. The rest of the film is apparently full of hilarious (to some) moments and lots and lots of farts. The farts are actually what got the most complaints. Based on the trailer, Swiss Army Man, looks like a wild ride about a mans hallucinations and his companionship with a corpse. Take a look at the trailer for yourself and get ready for all of the farting June 17th, 2016. A new Kingdom Hearts title is coming stateside this week. Blizzard is continuing to build hype for it's upcoming shooter title with it's latest animated trailer. This time, the story revolves around tracers trying to intercept the deadly widowmaker from an assassination plot. Final Fantasy doesn't just have a hill to climb, it has a mountain. According to series director, Hajime Tabata, stated in a press conference in LA following the Final Fantasy: Uncovered event, that Final Fantasy 15 would need to sell "10 million copies to recoup the investment." In a statement made to IGN, this has since been clarified as just a "high goal," for the games sales although it's hard to imagine a title 10 years in the making with an anime series, CGI film and it's own mobile game wouldn't need a large amount of sales to compensate. If Final Fantasy 15 were able to sell over 10 million copies, that would make it the second Final Fantasy title to do so, following Final Fantasy 7 which achieved the feat after re-release. A huge number for a huge franchise but it's certainly going to be able to perform well from the revenue it will pull in from it's numerous projects tied to fall release. It's also hard to imagine that a game with this much hype won't make its goal and then some being the latest entry in one of the most well known gaming franchises. Final Fantasy 15 will hit store shelves September 30th.
