Anyone who knows me personally can tell you that I am an award season nut, I absolutely adore them, I treat them much like anyone would treat the Olympics and I love talking about who's won, who lost, who got snubbed and who needs to stop being recognized and this year is going to be an interesting one.
With Game of thrones leading the way with an impressive, and well deserved, 19 nominations, along side Silicon Valley receiving a nomination for Outstanding comedy series, True Detective for drama, Treme for miniseries and acting nominations for Veep, HBO is an a position to possibly sweep this years awards. A lot of people were noticeably upset at the absence of Orphan Blacks talented actress Tatiana Maslany, which is another name on a long list of many award snubs. While it's no secret that Big Bang Theory's Jim Parson and Modern Family usually tends to grab their own fair share of awards, Louie and Orange is the New Black both have had critical acclaim along with a lot of success and could just as easily walk away with an award this year. Other surprising snubs came from the Fox networks comedy line up. Brooklyn Nine-Nine, that made news in Janurary for winning both a best new comedy series as well as an best comedic actor award for SNL alum Andy Samburg, the show only received one nomination for the best supporting actor category for Andre Braugher as Captain Ray Holt. Another surprising snub was former office actress Mindy Kaling's show, The Mindy Project, who was also another successful comedy series last year. Some of the happy surprises are Matt Bomers nomination for his role in the television movie, A Normal Heart, about the early HIV/AIDS epidemis in the mid to late 80's, Martin Freeman for the breakout FX drama, Fargo, Frances Conroy as the fashionista, Myrtle Snow in American Horror Story: Coven, as well as a handful of great nominations for the Netflix megahit, Orange is the new black, including Laverne Cox and Natasha Lyonne. For more and the entire list of nominees, you can read them here and get ready to watch the drama unfold on August 25th, 2014.
