DC's iconic villain, The Joker, is getting his own origin film but with a slight catch. The film is said to follow the beginnings of the Joker's madness without having anything to do with the current DCEU. There's speculation that the film will cast (yet another) actor, most likely younger, in the stand alone film that will have no relation to Jared Leto's Joker, which he is said to reprise in the sequel to Suicide Squad and Gotham City Sirens. The film will be set in the 80's with Hangover director Todd Phillips leading the picture. The film is also said to have a "hard-boiled crime feel." While a one off Joker film sounds nice, it seems like it's largely influenced by the wildly successful (although, well-deserved) Wonder Woman origin film. It also doesn't do a lot to support Leto's portrayal of the Joker that left a lot of fans unsatisfied. The announcement seems like more of a cash grab than anything else and I'm sure if it does well enough, they'll announce a sequel to the spin off as well. Looks like we are just going to have to wait and see how this one turns out for DC.
