How Taika Waititi breathed fresh air back into comic book films

(Spoliers) It is no secret that we are in the middle of an over saturated period of superhero films. Marvel is already 17 titles into their massive and expanding universe with a 3 film commitment per year, not to mention any off shoot comics and DC working on catching up, the ever looming fear is that these movies will become so similar that audiences will turn on them but Waititi's made it clear that his Thor film would be very different from the previous ones and a majority of what makes comic books films. Filled with silly references like an amazing Willy Wonka tunnel scene, to a great call back making fun of Black Widow for this line it is by far one of the funniest comic book movies to ever hit the big screen. There's some hilarious cameo's from Jeff Goldblum's Grandmaster to a completely unexpected Matt Damon and even Luke Hemsworth. He also managed to wrap up a great infinity gauntlet plot hole (and you will laugh when you see it). Hela is a fantastic villain, powerful, menacing and downright awesome to watch fight. As the most well reviewed Marvel film, Thor Ragnarok is looking to have one great opening weekend, which is good because (aside from Iron Man 2) the first and second Thor solo films are arguably lower on the list of good Marvel films. The actions awesome, the music is amazing, the easter eggs are plenty, and you won't stop laughing even up until the end. The movie, however, does change some significant things for Thor's lore and it will be very interesting to see what's to come when we see Thor again in Avengers: Infinity War. Waititi's comedy angled action brought some real life back into this franchise and allowed Hemsworth to shine at his best. The entire cast (Thompson, Ruffalo, Blanchett, and more) all benefited from this highly comedic and lose style of film and we can only hope he will get to work with Marvel again as he has expressed interest in doing a Thor: Ragnarok 2 and not a Thor 4. If there is anything you do this weekend, make it to the theaters to see this!
