Traditionally, memorial day weekend is the start to the summer for most people in the U.S. including the box office, but recent years have seen some of the years bigger films open as early as April and this years box office suffered, heavily. It suffered so bad in fact, that this is the lowest box office turnout we've had for the four day weekend since 2001. It was so slow that not even a Disney movie could turn out their expected profit but the real problem here is the remake of the 1982 horror classic, Poltergeist, that managed to bring in a fair 28 million dollars (which, against a 35 million dollar budget isn't so bad,) the problem is this films underwhelming debut spells trouble for another remake, Stephen King's "It." True Detective director, Cary Fukunaga, stepped away from the project this past weekend citing, "budgetary disputes," as being part of the reason he left. Various sources have also claimed that New Line, the company behind the remake, was afraid to give the project too much money because of the low earnings that came in from Poltergeist. Regardless of what happened behind the scenes, it seems as though for the moment that the project is shelved, indefinitely. So only time will tell if we will get to see Pennywise again.

Liam Neeson's next installment in the, "have to save my family," movie series, is due out in January but the reason it mad news today was it's title. A while ago, I made a joke on Facebook about the title being something like, Taken: 3 Neeson v. Neeson, where Liam has to save Liam from another Liam, very The Island (starring Ewan Mcgreggor and Scarlett Johanson) or The One (starring Jet Li), of course I'm wrong but the actual title is slightly worse than my pitch. Taken 3 will now be stylized as Tak3n, akin to early 2000's films such as 2 Fast 2 Furious or Cradle 2 the Crave, Tak3n (which is almost hard to type) is just slight better than the horribly titled Terminator: Genisys, also due out next year. All in all, get excited to see Liam Neeson run around and fire guns at bad guys January 9th, 2015.
One of Hollywoods biggest blockbuster directors will be returning to his biggest and best franchise amid allegations of sexual assault. Throughout a tumultuous year, Bryan Singer remained behind the scenes, first dropping out of promotions for X men: Days of Future Past, earlier this May. After filing for a motion to dismiss the charges brought against him, followed by a successful opening for the X Men franchise, everyone wondered how this controversy would effect his future with Fox studios and if he would be returning for the next installment in the series, X Men: Age of Apocalypse. After a series of instagram photos showing that he had been working on the script with long time collaborator, Simon Kinberg, Fox has announced that he will in fact be returning to direct the film. While I'm sure he is breathing easy for the moment, the allegations by former acquaintance, Michael Egan, given to Vulture, over what happened is a disturbing account of manipulation in Hollywood in the pursuit of false promises. It's an interesting read that gives a much more in depth look behind Bryan Singer, the now charged sxex offender, Marc J. Collins Rector, and his early yourtube-esque streaming company, DEN. Only the future will tell if Bryan Singer has dodged a bullet or if this storm can follow him up until the 2016 release of the next X Men film.
It's been a few weeks since we've had a good movie hit theaters but we're finally getting under way with out big name fall releases, first up is the action thriller Maze Runner. How did Teen Wolf star Dylan O'Brien's first lead role turn out, lets take a look!
Labor Day weekend is upon, signaling the end of another summer Blockbuster season and the news was not so good as this year was one of the worst box office summers in over a decade but I have a good idea why that happened.
This summer season may have been the lowest in over a decade but did it's out of "Halloween weekend" horror thriller, As Above-So Below, bring movie goers to the box office, or close out the summer with another dud?
The infamous Halloween weekend horror film that spawned six sequels is making it's return to theaters to scare and shock movie goers a whole decade later. For it's 10 year anniversary, the original Saw film will be available for one week only this October. To be honest, I've always considered the first Saw film to be borderline genius in the new gore horror film age that we moved into during the early to mid 2000's. It's twist and overall tension created an interesting experience that not only kept you on the edge of your seat, but it in turn, made you want more. with that said, if there is one of the seven that you have to see, it's this one. Look out for it this October.
Empire magazine has given us a new look at Jeremy Renner in costume on set of Avengers: Age of Ultron, looking noticeably closer to his Hawkeye character from the comic books. Dawning what looks like a black and purple trench coat, close to the material that Captain America's new suit in the Winter Solider was made out of, its a better outfit than what was used in the first movie. Hopefully these are all good signs, we all know that Jeremy Renner was not happy with Hawkeyes portrayal in the first Avengers film but new rumors are circulating that his character might even play a role in the new Captain America film. Here's to hoping we get the Clint Barton we deserve.
To be frank, I am not the biggest fan of mega-block buster director Micheal "Blow up everything" Bay. I am not a fan of his use of stereotypical behavior (including his most recent Transformers 4 film,) or having created two of the most offensive, foul and senseless characters in one of the most boring films I've ever seen in a theater. Micheal Bay has always been heavily scrutinized, perhaps because of his ability to churn out blockbuster hits that even I can't seem to completely stay away from. As appealing as some of his films look before they are actually released, he has also consistently released some of the worst rated big budget films as well. Known for more of his "aesthetic" than anything else, I was more than over joyed when stories began to circulate this week that he might not return to Transformers definite sequel, Transformers 5. I could, very easily, make a list of ten directors who could completely turn this near cringe inducing franchise around, even with its less than impressive, very odd ending. Well, here is to hoping.
The Amazing Spider Man 2 still stands as one of my top 5 favorite movies I've seen in 2014 but the deleted scene that leaked onto the internet this week is more than just jaw dropping, it basically changes the entire (or what I thought would be) future of the franchise. In the scene, that was almost immediately pulled off of youtube, while Peter Parker stands in the cemetery over looking the grave of Gwen Stacy, Richard Parker, portrayed by Campbell Scott, approaches, offering some advice to Peter as well as delivering an iconic line, which I won't spoil for you but I'm sure you can recite it with minimal effort. All in all, it's not the biggest scene, but it changes the tone dramatically for the continuation of the franchise, and if Richard Parker should play a larger role in the next Amazing Spider man films, I'm sure we'll hear a lot more about his relation to Oscorp and how he survived. To be frank, this would have been heart stopped to have seen while watching the movie, so I wish they had included more footage of Campbell but it's still interesting either way. The Amazing Spider Man 2 Blue Ray and DVD will be released in America on August 19th, 2014.
