While there wasn't much in the way of official news for Suicide Squad 2, Jared Leto might be heading over to another comic book film. The Valiant comic Bloodshot is reportedly eyeing the star in order to establish a cinematic universe. The film will be produced by Sony and is most likely a few years away from debuting the super solider on the big screen. If Valiant will be able to actually establish a universe of their own is going to be hard to fit in with the increasingly crammed schedules of DCEU and MCU but only time will tell.

Christopher Nolan's triumphant engrossing war film, Dunkirk made an impressive debut, topping out the weekends box office at $50.5 million. The uncoventional film has been met with critical praise, currently with a 92% on Rottentomatoes, whice visionary director, Luc Besson's Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets opened with a weak 17 million. This is troubling news for Besson, who had already been in the news for financial trouble, but the film is unlikely to make back its $209 million production cost. Girls Trip opened to a very decent second spot this weekend, bringing in just about $30 million, which saw 3rd place, 4th, and 5th, going to Spider-Man: Homecoming, War for the Planet of the Apes, and Valerian respectively. All in all, Nolan's 70 mm war film debuted strong but it's hard to imagine that Valerian is going to end up with any of the planned sequels that Luc Besson had already begun working on.
Multiple sources have now reported that father of the zombie/horror genre, George A. Romero, has passed away at 77. The iconic film director known for known for the famous, Night of the Living Dead, back in 1968, has been a staple to the genre and in Hollywood for many years. Giving the world Dawn of the Dead, The Crazies, and even having an acting credit in The Silence of the Lambs, Romeros brand of horror will surely be missed in Hollywood. Thoughts go out to his family and children.
The next Batman film has had quite a handful of shakeups and it looks like the original script has been scrapped entirely. The solo film which was planned to be led by actor Ben Affleck, and was originally slated to be directed and written by the Batman v Superman star, only to have left both positions. After Matt Reevers (Cloverfield, War for the Planet of the Apes), stepped in to helm the project, it's now been reported that Affleck's script has been canned for a completely new direction. Confirmed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast on MTV, Reeves has described the new story as having a noir feel, being completely different from what was planned. There was also no confirmation of Joe Maginello playing Deathstroke as the main villain in the new Batman film. Unfortunately, we will just have to wait and see if this movies going to make it's 2018 planned release.
While the last Transformers film debuted to a franchise low, the series has no plans of stopping with the next film about Bumblebee, being a spin off film. Surprisingly, the movies a lot farther along than anyone had anticipated, already having found its director in Nick Knight and and Hailee Steinfeld in the lead. The film will follow Steinfeld who plays a mechanic and meets the Transformers, back in the 1980's. The news is somewhat confusing due to the mention of Bumblebee's involvement, turning the tides of war during WW2, which would have seemed like an indication to a film about the iconic transformer but, looks like the studio had other plans. Regardless of the lasting success of T5, Bumblebee's solo effort is ready to crash into theaters June 8th, 2018.
Luc Besson's beautiful space epic might have a lot riding on its success at the end of next month. Just a few weeks away from the release of Valerian, Europacorp has posted a loss of 136 million in the last fiscal year, due to a small handful of under performing films. The company is reportedly hoping to franchise the series, based on french graphic novels, and is hoping for a mid-summer blockbuster hit. The early reviews are praising the visuals elements of Valerian while the story seems a bit more on the so-so side. Valerian isn't set to hit North American theaters until July 21st but we can hope that the famed director of The Fifth Element and Lucy, can find his footing this summer with his latest adventure.
(Minor spoilers ahead) Shaun of the Dead director, Edgar Wright's, latest film opens in theaters this week and it is living up to the already critical acclaim it has earned from early reviews. Baby Drive is Wright at his absolute best. Driving off a classic heist formula, the movie finds the central character, Baby (Ansel Elgort), caught in a world of crime in order to pay off a debt to a seedy criminal (Kevin Spacey), and his changing gangs of robbers. The movie's casting is absolutely fantastic but where Wright really comes in strong is his signature style. Few films lack the parallels and small moments of brilliant editing work that Wright can work in. From Bats (Jamie Foxx) repeatedly wearing red, to the vinyls placement and plenty of others, Wrights work style of visual comedy is better than ever. Baby Driver, like the character Baby, is helped by the music choices, that pair with certain scenes in entertaining ways. Not only does Wright use bullet shots to play into certain tracks, but he's smart enough to push some of the slower scenes, keeping the movie flowing from start to finish. Baby Driver is one of 2017's most fun and stylish films and one you absolutely want to catch, dance, sing along to, and tap your feet with long after the ride. Things are beginning to shape up for the Dark Pheonix film and it looks like our first, new mutant hero, has been announced. Dazzler, the energy beam wielding mutant, was referenced and slated to appear in last years X Men: Apocalypse. The character was heavily rumored to be portrayed by pop singer Taylor Swift, after an image surfaced of Swift and cast from the film hanging out. While this wasn't the case, fans can look forward to seeing her appear in the next big screen, X Men film, due out next year.
In as little as 48 hours, Disney has had the controversial firing of the former Han Solo film directors and found their replacement in Academy Award winning, Ron Howard. Granted, it seems like there wasn't much work left to be done, so Howard has his work cut out for him but this is still great news for the fans that were worried that this swap in directors could cause a delay in production schedule. In other interesting news, it's been reported that Phil Lord and Chris Miller had met with DC sometime ago over leading one of their projects, The Flash. Considering that the film is currently without a directorial lead and given the comedic elements of the characters itself, they would actually make a perfect fit for leading the title. While nothing has been said by either party, it's good to hear that Lord and Miller will hopefully be back behind the chair sometime in the near future.
It looks like the plot thickens in a galaxy far, far away. After the shocking news this morning that Phil Lord and Chris Miller had left the Han Solo film, many fans were left scratching their heads but according to a report by Variety, the departure wasn't as smooth as it initially seems. Apparently, the directing found themselves at odds with various members of the Lucasfilms studios, including Kathleen Kennedy and executive producer of the film, Lawrence Kasdan. The duo apparently weren't fans of the tightly run production. Kennedy has assured fans that a replacement director will arrive shortly but until then, we'll just have to keep an eye out of the untitled Han Solo film that is due out next May.
