In an interview with the Italian website, Badtaste.it, Martin Freeman has given us a bit of a tease about his role in Marvel's up-coming, Captain America: The Civil War. Freeman speaks of "certain agencies that help to tame the heroes powers," and also "whether he's good or bad." What would make most sense with the description given would be Henry Peter Gyrich, who became the first U.S. liaison and a very big thorn in the Avengers side. Aside from actively campaigning against the Avengers, he also uses his influence to keep them on a tight leash. Gyrich has also appeared in X Men comics and Fantastic Four comics as well. Given the duality that's described by Freeman, this is a a strong contender for who he might end up playing (or a character who serves the same purpose) but you never know what might happen! Stay tuned for more information as the May 6th release date approaches.
Ant Man went a nightmarish development process, bringing in various comedic writers and even the lead actor himself, Paul Rudd, in to fix a movie that had been under Sean of the Dead's director, Edgar Wright's belt for a number of years but how did it all turn out? The movie that was part heist film/part message of what fathers will do for their daughters, feels like the "oddest" man out of all the current Marvel films. (and that's saying something) Edgar Wrights stylistic quick cut a ways appear throughout the movie and his feel is definitely there despite the fact that Bring It On director, Peyton Reed, ultimately stepped in after the movie was passed over from some other very big comedic directors such as David Wain and Adam McKay. Aside from the editing, the comedic elements are high here and while the movie attempts to cram in funny moments throughout the film, a few of the jokes fall flat. More of a source material issue than it is the usually hysterical Paul Rudd, the movie is upheld but a strong supporting cast including Micheal Peña, Tip T.I. Harris and David Dastmalchian as the crew members of the former thief, Scott Lang. Ant Man does, however, actually develop their villain, Yellowjacket, played by Corey Stoll as Yellowjacket. The movie makes great use of it's special effects for the scenes where Rudd was shrunk down. Seeing cool moments like him flying on the back of an Ant or fighting on a Thomas the Tank Engine toy set was entertaining and hilarious and an alternate universe scene featured an imagined dimension that rivaled 2014's Interstellar interpretation in looks. We even got to see the new Avengers compound as well as some other easter eggs that will appear again in Captain America: Civil War. While the movie had it's flaws, there were plenty of references to the Marvel Universe as a whole. Even the criticism of the events that followed Avengers 2, a returning S.H.I.E.L.D. and some former Hydra members. We even see a familiar face make an appearance and a nod towards our web slinging hero, Spider Man, set to appear in Captain America 3.along side Ant Man's next appearance. The end credit scene, however, is almost more surprising than anything that happens in Ant Man, playing a key role in the next Captain America: Civil War film. The other odd thing is that aside from this solo film, Ant Man currently has no planned sequel, which is strange for a company that's usually considering sequels and franchises before the movie has even hit theaters. (and you'd think given the success of MCU, they'd have planned something for the future) Unfortunately, as funny at times and enjoyable this film may be, it's projected for an opening weekend around 65 million but Kevin Feige stated that Ant Man would only appear in another solo film if "audiences want it." Ant Man might not be the best film you'll catch this summer, but it's hard not to root for a movie that's climbed mountains just to make it's release date.
Ant Man has only been in theaters for one day and Marvel is already making some big announcements. Around the holiday season, Marvel plans to release a Blue Ray Dvd box set featuring all of the phase 2 films as well as 3D and Digital copies of those films as well. The set will include Marvel's Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant Man, all for all for a whopping $250. Entertainment magazine has given us our best look yet at the upcoming X-Men film, X Men:Apocalypse and it raises quite a few questions! In the picture above, we have Oscar Isaac as the villain himself, Apocalypse, standing along side (what could be two of the new age "Four Horsemen) Alexandra Shipp's Storm, dawning the silver mohawk and Olivia Munn as Psylocke. We also see Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique back with the good guys as well as a set production photo featuring the director Bryan Singer, take a look at the other photos below and get excited for this film to hit theaters May 27th, 2016!
This is terrible news! After that awesome announcement trailer for the Dead Island sequel, fans have been scratching their heads waiting for some new news about this title and unfortunately for us, it looks like we might be waiting awhile longer before this game sees it's release. In an apparent statement made by publisher Deep Silver, the company has "made the decision to part ways," with gaming development company Yager leaving the much loved zombie franchise in gaming limbo. For now, take a look at the fantastic E3 trailer from 2014's E3 press conference that made this open world game look like boat loads of fun! If you're looking to get your hands on the Goddess of light Amiibo then I have some good news for you! Amazon announced one Twitter today that the figure, part of Nintendo's wave 5 set due to be released this summer, will be the retail giants online exclusive. This is, of course, not the only retailer exclusive figure to come out in Wave 5, as Dark Pitt is also one as well. Make sure to get your hands on it when it's released July 24th.
Comic con is always a wild time during the year and this is one the best ones we've seen in a long time! While we wait for some more official trailers and leaks, lets get right into what we have seen today.
- Our first look at the Suicide Squad trailer (which can be seen here) shows off Amanda Waller, played by Viola Davis, explaining the point behind the squad of criminals that she's putting together. Shes well aware of the risk she's taking and there's definitely an exploitative tone. We hear a bit of Will Smith's Deadshot charater as well as Margot Robbie and a few other faces from the team and most surprisingly was our first on screen glimpse of Joker and hearing Jared Leto's take on the iconic villain! Be sure to check back for the full trailer when it's release. - We got another look at the Deadpool film as well and I can tell you, without a doubt, it's very true to the character. The trailers filthy and hilarious and it looks like it will be full of action. There are some scenes from the former deadpool CGI trailer shown awhile ago. Make sure to check out the leaked trailer for that as well and get excited for this film to hit theaters next Feburary. - For the third year in a row, director Duncan Jones showed up to comic con but according to a packed hall, he didn't come empty handed. Over the past several weeks there have been plenty of indications that something big was coming this year. The footage shown was described as a mix of Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings and the original Warcraft, which all sounds fantastic to me. Seeing as the film is due out in 11 months, we're bound to get ourselves a trailer as well but as of right now, nothing has leaked and its rumored that the footage shown was not meant to be used for an official trailer, but that could always change. - While we're still waiting for the news about what was shown during the preview for X Men: Apocalypse, one image being passed around featuring Storm, played by newcomer Alexandra Shipp, standing along side with the villain himself, played by Oscar Issac, has raised plenty of questions of where we might see our weather ruling heroine. There's plenty more to come, stick around for all the awesome nerdy news! The full Suicide Squad trailer has finally been released and boy is it shocking! Take a look at a much better quality version of the trailer below and get excited for this villain led film to release August 5th, 2016. You are never really prepared for bad news and this feels like the worst. Nintendo president and legend among gamers, Satoru Iwata, has passed away at 55. It was nothing new that he had been dealing with health concerns, which caused him to miss 2014's E3 due to a growth in his bile duct. Iwata has been a powerful and recognizable figure since being appointed the 4th president in 2000 for Nintendo. He will be sorely missed and it will be hard to find a gamer who wasn't impacted by his influence on the industry, his creativity and his many humorous moments from his Nintendo Directs to his antics with fellow co-workers. His legacy will carry on.
