Music games are coming back and Guitar is taking and fresh, new spin on the franchise. If you weren't one of the fans of these immensely popular games in the mid-aughts of the 2000's, now might be the time to get excited. This time around, gamers will be performing in front of massive crowds with live video feed playing in the background. You'll even be able to challenged your friends with a brand news GHTV multilayer feature. The games soundtrack will feature songs old and new to the franchise like My Chemical Romance, Ed Sheeran, Pierce The Veil, The Lumineers and many more. Take a look at the exciting announcement trailer below and get ready to rock out again when Guitar Hero live releases this fall. We're just a few weeks away from Avengers 2 but Marvels second big film release this year, Ant Man, just gave us out first official trailer and it's fantastic. We even get a little interaction with The Wasp's Evangeline Lily and a great look at the Ultron-esque looking Yellow Jacket, played by Corey Stoll. Get ready for one the worlds smallest heroes to bring some big action and hilarity to theaters this summer, July 17th. This weekend, Marvel launched it's first of 5 series for the online streaming service Netflix and boy is good. So good in fact that I wouldn't be shocked if it got some award season recognition next year. Daredevil, featuring The Theory of Everything's Charlie Cox as the Hell's Kitchen vigilante, is a far ways away from the 2003 feature film version featuring the same Marvel hero. Daredevil is gritty and dark, packed full of some fun Easter eggs referencing an incident incident that nearly destroyed Manhattan and even mentions of a man with an "iron suit or a magic hammer," and another for Captain America. The series winds it's way through the crime ridden Hells Kitchen with Matt Murdock along with his former college roommate and partner, Foggy Nelson. As the story progresses, events begin to weigh on their friendship as well as bring up questions of legality and morality and just where the line needs to be drawn. With help from True Blood's, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, Vondie Curtis-Hall as Ben Ulrich and plenty others, this series offers a very fresh take on a genre that's nearly been beaten to the ground. What might be one of the best characters out of this already strong cast, is Vincent D'Onforio as Wilson Fisk, better known as Kingpin. Onforio's talent alone is impressive but what really propels him to one of the staples of this series is the strong characters development that's rarely seen for villain. He's oddly humanized, giving us a much more complex look at an iconic comic villain. From his childhood, to his interactions with other gangs, it's fresh to have a central villain with his own motivations and set backs and a story arc you can actually feel yourself getting invested in. Another great stride for this series is the action sequences, which may or may not be the best part. There's even a hall way scene that pays homage to one of the greatest action sequences of all time from the Korean Drama, Old Boy. It's even received great praise from director of Guardians of the Galaxy, James Gunn! Daredevil is the combination of good writing, action, and an amazing cast. You'll laugh, you'll cry and you might even learn a thing or two but this 13 episode series is most certainly one of the best that super heroes has to offer.
No one could keep silent about the critically acclaimed, psycho-sexual horror film that made it's debut at 2014's Cannes Film Festival, "It Follows," and it's finally received it's wide release. This movie feels like an ode to horror movies past. In a time where an abundance of blood, jump-scare tactics and screaming feel normal, It Follows, feels like a jagged knife in the side of modern horror cinema. Accompanied with an aggressive and sometimes, menacing, soundtrack, the movie follows the story of Jay, a girl who gets passed what is simply known as, "It," after a sexual encounter. The premise is simple, "It," can be anyone you know or someone you don't know and no matter where you are, it's always walking towards you, but the films gear shift in tone as well as pacing help immerse the viewer into the paranoia that these characters are experiencing. It's a truly terrifying scenario, executed expertly by old horror movie tactics (specifically a number of wide angle lens shots) that make this film feel all the more fresh. The writing is great and the dialogue is believable. The movie seems even more incredible when you find out that the frame work for this story came from director David Robert Mitchells childhood nightmare. The ending itself is enough to leave you discussing this film for ages to come and it's already brought on some interesting interpretations. The movies well written, suspenseful and one of the best indie horror movies I've ever seen. This is the next film you're going to try to get all of your friends to watch.
Mortal Kombat is almost upon us and the up coming game has received an official launch trailer full of blood, guts and some serious fatalities. Take a look at this awesome trailer and get ready to nose dive into some brutal action April 14th. Keep a close look out for some of the new characters as well as all the fan favorites returning to the franchise! Just like last year, it looks like 2015's summer block buster movies are coming earlier than ever and here to kick off the season is the 7th entry in the racing power house franchise, Furious 7, but how did this film stack up against the rest? Let's take a look.
There's no getting around the fact that the Fast and Furious franchise bases it's films on a key formula including insane and nearly laughable action scenes, car candy, and girls, and if you're going into Furious 7 thinking you'll see something different, you're wrong. With all that said, Furious 7 is still one of the best films of the Franchise, even if it's a hard pill to swallow. The action and fight scenes are well choreographed, the car stunts are bolder than ever and the dialogue is just as cheesy. Jason Statham was the perfect addition as the villain, Deckard Shaw, and the Rock's return as Luke Hobbes didn't get nearly enough screen time. The movie feels a bit convoluted at times but even the dialogue heavy scenes are cut and edited so quickly that it feels like it's only minutes between next car or fight scene. The best of Furious 7 is it's polite and respectful send off to an actor who died far too young. While I don't want to spoil the bittersweet ending, it can't help but cement the fact that Paul Walker is no longer with us and his character will most likely not return to the franchise, CGI or not. Furious 7 serves as a long and sweet goodbye to an actor and character that's appeared in one of the biggest movie franchises and he will no doubt be missed, by his on screen family and plenty of fans. Rest in Peace Paul Walker and as Dom Terretto would say, "Salute, mi familia." It might be April Fools but one thing that isn't a joke is Nintendo's new Direct. So it looks like we didn't hear anything about the new Legend of Zelda title or Star Fox but it does look like we have a lot of Fire Emblem as well as other RPG's coming our way! Nintendo has a lot of big titles planned for the Wii U so don't retire that console too quick! I'll post videos from the direct when I can. Feel free to watch the Splatoon stream here as well as check back later to see the Nintendo Direct video yourself. Game developer and Black Tusk studios employee, Jack Felling, tweeted the image above from the last day of motion capture for the latest installment in the Gears of War franchise. While GoW 4 is still shrouded in mystery, hopefully this is a sign that we'll be able to see some information on the title for the Xbox one come this years Microsoft E3 press conference. Rumor has it that the story will be turning to its much darker roots.
