The Purge: Anarchy is set to release all hell this weekend, but is it worth heading back into the war-zone to the highly successful 2013 movies? The Purge: Anarchy comes with a mix bag of issues including, revenge, racism, sexism, economic inequality, power, and population control, it's biggest fault is that it tried to dip its fingers into each of these issues but didn't end up pushing any topic far enough. The premise is simple, what would you do if you weren't held accountable for your actions for a period of time? The large message, kill people. While the movie does a decent job of setting up each of it's prominent characters with their own individual motives to get killed or kill, some of the more interesting possibilities felt completely over looked. The Purge also seemed to suffer the case of the overzealous sequel, trying to accomplish far too much. The sequel also revealed that due to the lack of participation, the government has also become involved. While the first movie left most of the same questions about the society they lived in like who's cleaning this up and how can you just go to work in the morning, Anarchy makes all of these questions seem even more prevalent given its city environment. Even a scene at the end, featuring three of the main characters walking into a hospital is still eerily clear, of course this is right when the purge ended but one would assume that a hospital opening after a night of mayhem would have a large handful of people right at its door. All in all, Anarchy lost out on its predecessors suspense and traded it for gun fire and few tense situations. Even Frank Grillo's, (who played Crossbones in Captain America: Winter Soldier) who felt compelled to purge in honor of his son, didn't get nearly as much time as he deserved for a moment that the movie basically built up to. With the first film having a 3 million dollar budget and made right under 90 million, The Purge: Anarchy with it's 9 million dollar budget might and it's summer release might be able to match that and if Hollywood has it's way, I'm sure we'll end up with a Purge 3 by next summer.
